Fernie was founded in 1898 and grew up around coal mining in the Elk Valley. Today its historic downtown is full of restaurants, cafés and shops, 9 minutes' drive from the chalet.
Good to know: Fernie is on Mountain Time, one hour ahead of Vancouver. Restaurant hours change by season, so check before you go and book ahead for big groups.
